Project overview

We partnered with Ensign International Energy Services LLC to design and fabricate a bespoke heavy-duty trailer for transporting generator sets across challenging desert environments in Oman.

Delivered from our Nizwa facility, this project required a solution capable of handling extreme loads, harsh terrain, and strict regulatory requirements, while ensuring safe and efficient movement between well locations.

Challenge

Operating in remote desert conditions presents unique logistical and engineering challenges. Ensign required a custom-built trailer capable of transporting generator sets with a total weight of approximately 180 tonnes.

The complexity of the project was driven by:

  • Extreme load requirements – 180T capacity
  • Large-scale structure – 26.5m length, 4.3m width
  • Harsh desert operating conditions
  • Strict compliance with Oman transport and safety regulations

In addition to engineering performance, the solution needed to be fully approved by multiple authorities, including the Ministry of Transport, Royal Oman Police (ROP), and OPAL standards.

Solution

We delivered a fully engineered and fabricated trailer solution, managing the project end-to-end from design and approvals through to fabrication and testing.

The scope included:

  • Complete engineering design and structural analysis
  • Fabrication and assembly of the trailer
  • Integration of axle systems, hydraulic power unit (HPU), and braking systems
  • Full electrical and safety systems in line with Oman regulations
  • Coordination of regulatory approvals and certifications

Key Technical Features

  • Maximum gross weight: ~180 tonnes
  • Axle system: 180T load rating @ 10 km/h
  • Hydraulic system: Double-acting cylinders with 210 bar working pressure
  • Braking system: Dual-line air braking with ASME-certified air vessels
  • Tyres: Nine sets of 26.5R25 for heavy-duty terrain performance
  • HPU: 20 HP integrated diesel-powered hydraulic unit
  • Compliance: Fully aligned with Oman transport regulations and field operator standards

From initial engineering through to final assembly, we worked alongside Ensign to ensure alignment on:
