Hoisting challenges

The drawworks is one of the most critical systems on the rig. When it stops, the rig stops.

Common challenges include:

  • rising pressure to increase trip speed
  • non-productive time when hoisting equipment underperforms
  • inconsistent hoisting control on demanding wells
  • maintenance costs that add to total cost of ownership
  • extreme environments that push conventional equipment to its limits

Modern operations demand:

  • faster, safer tripping
  • precise speed and load control
  • lower maintenance requirements
  • reliable performance in harsh environments

Why BENTEC?

Engineered for maximum uptime.

Unlike conventional clutch and chain-driven systems, we engineer gear-driven electric Drawworks that combine regenerative braking, simplified architecture and intelligent control to deliver safer, quieter and more reliable hoisting.

BENTEC Drawworks combine:

  • a 4-Quadrant regenerative drive for precise speed and load control
  • gear-driven design for reliable, high-precision performance
  • in-house AC motor technology, backed by our own drawworks engineering experience

No water cooling. No hydraulic braking. Fewer components to maintain.

We build to API 7K and CE. API, ATEX, DNV and EAC certification is available as an option.

Key benefits

Designed to Deliver

Explore the technology

BENTEC Drawworks unit
  1. 4-Quadrant regenerative drive

Delivers precise speed and load control for smoother, safer drilling operations

  2. Original Lebus-grooved drum

Promotes even wireline spooling, helping extend drill-line life

  3. Air-cooled eddy-current brake

Works alongside the regenerative drive without the need for water cooling

  4. Fail-safe spring-set parking brake

Holds the load automatically if power is lost

  5. Simplified electric architecture

Runs on electric power and compressed air only, eliminating water cooling and hydraulic systems

  6. Feed-off & Anti-Collision ready

Compatible with Feed-off, Auto Driller, Anti-Collision Systems and other drilling enhancement technologies

BENTEC DW-E Series

Gear-driven. Electric. Built for demanding hoisting operations.

The DW-E Series spans eleven models, from DW-E-1000 to DW-E-3300, in AC or DC drive, with single or two-speed configurations available. Every model shares the same gear-driven architecture, 4-Quadrant regenerative drive, and simplified electric power and compressed air only operation, so the choice of model comes down to the power, hook load and drive type your rig needs.

Models in the range:

DW-E-1000-AC | DW-E-1250-AC | DW-E-1250-DC | DW-E-1500-AC | DW-E-1500-DC | DW-E-2000-AC | DW-E-2000-DC | DW-E-2300-AC | DW-E-2500-AC | DW-E-3000-AC | DW-E-3300-AC.

Each model is available in single-speed or two-speed configuration.

“Since switching to BENTEC’s gear-driven Drawworks, we’ve cut non-productive time on every trip, and our maintenance crews spend far less time on the brake system. It’s a simpler machine to run, and a simpler machine to keep running.”
