Tubular handling challenges

Tubular handling remains one of the highest-risk and most labour-intensive operations on the rig.

Without automated catwalk systems, operations face:

  • increased risk of incidents and workforce exposure
  • slower drilling and handling performance
  • higher manpower requirements
  • inefficient rig operations

Modern operations demand:

  • faster standbuilding and tripping performance
  • reduced manual handling
  • consistent, repeatable operations

Why BENTEC?

More control. More safety. More efficiency.

We engineer BENTEC Hydraulic Catwalk Systems to safely and efficiently transport tubulars between ground level and drill floor, supporting advanced pipe handling operations and reducing risk exposure.

BENTEC Hydraulic Catwalk Systems combine:

  • fast cycle speeds for optimised handling performance
  • precise remote control capabilities
  • integration with advanced pipe handling systems

Built on a modular design, BENTEC Catwalks can be adapted to a wide range of rig configurations and operational requirements.

Key benefits

Designed to Deliver

Product Range

  • Low deck. Fast cycles.

The Winch Type range covers substructure heights from 22 ft to 42 ft (6.7 m to 12.8 m) across six models, with cycle times as fast as 22 seconds from ground to drill floor. A low operating deck height of 0.87 m (2.85 ft) and a wireless remote-control console fitted as standard keep personnel clear of the pipe-handling zone.

    • six models covering substructure heights from 22 ft to 42 ft (6.7 m–12.8 m): HCS-22-23, HCS-24-26, HCS-27-30, HCS-31-35, HCS-36-39, HCS-40-42
    • cycle times from 22 to 27 seconds, ground to drill floor, depending on model
    • handles tubulars from 2⅞ in (73 mm) up to 24 in (609.6 mm) in diameter, up to 48 ft (14.6 m) long
    • storage capacity of 30,000 lbs (13.6 t) each side
    • operating deck height of just 0.87 m (2.85 ft)
    • transports as a single load under 18 m (59.1 ft) in length
    • external hydraulic power and control unit (HPCU), for easier maintenance and repair
    • wireless remote-control console included as standard, rated ATEX Ex II 2G Ex ib IIB T4 Gb, IP65

FAQs

  • Both move tubulars between ground level and the drill floor, but they lift differently. The Cylinder Type range (HCS-16-25 to HCS-40-46) is hydraulically levelled and moved by dedicated main and levelling cylinders, with an onboard hydraulic power unit. The Winch Type range (HCS-22-23 to HCS-40-42) lifts the trough on a hydraulic winch and two cables, runs a lower 0.87 m operating deck, and ships with an external hydraulic power and control unit (HPCU) and a wireless remote-control console as standard
