Bentec Again Proves its Competence: Drilling Rig Upgrades for Modified Operating Conditions
A stationary drilling rig becomes a Cluster Slider
Every rig operator is concerned with increasing a rig’s return on investment. One way to achieve this is to upgrade the drilling facility to meet changed operating conditions. Recent example for Bentec being your right partner in this field: A customer with Bentec stationary rigs operating in the Orenburg region had to face the increasing market demand for drilling capacities in West and Central Siberia.
As the drilling programmes there require Cluster Sliders the customer decided – after calculating the profitability – to refurbish a stationary rig and have it upgraded to a cluster drilling rig. To stay within budget, one of the essential requirements was to keep the existing equipment without significant adjustments.
Quite a task that the Bentec engineers in Bad Bentheim, Germany and Tyumen, Russia solved brilliantly. The outcome: a 320-ton single-train Cluster Slider with the complete equipment set of the stationary rig. And spud in of the new rig was 14 days ahead of the planned time at the new drilling location.
An upgrade that sets new benchmarks
The new Cluster Slider Rig is marked by some unique solutions: thanks to the universal Bentec skidding system, consisting of skidding boxes, header wagons and floor skids, it was possible to incorporate all components of the stationary rig into the Cluster Slider without considerable adjustments.
The new rig has the highest Drilling Module, the highest total tank capacity (approx. 500 m³) and is the first Bentec Cluster Slider that includes a Power Pack.
Cables from the mast/substructure to the Power Control Room at the end of the train are completely routed through the Drilling Support Module and are thus protected against climatic influences.
More upgrades to come
Specialising in all kinds of brownfield services ranging from rig recertification to modernisation, Bentec is currently rebuilding and planning the upgrade of another two stationary rigs to Cluster Sliders for operations in Russia, which will have the same or a similar configuration.
Of course, the company can also turn other manufacturers’ stationary rigs into a single or double-train Cluster Slider, meeting the customers’ needs for compact and modular drilling systems.
